Hmmm, a blog. I never thought I would have this. Ā But then again, I never thought I would be chanting and teaching yoga classes but here I am. Ā I started taking my yogic path more for exercise. Ā
The first thing I noticed was that I didn’t know how to breath, or I did, but I just wasn’t doing it. Wondering why my mind felt better but my body was hurting, I didn’t quite realize what this yoga was all about. Ā
I read BKS Iyengar’s, Light On YogaĀ and had no idea what I was reading at the time.
Then, I found out about physical therapists getting into yoga therapy in an article in a PT magazine. That’s where I came across Ginger Garner’s,Ā Professional Yoga Therapy Program. Ā So happy that she had required reading…..from there I learned the other part (s) of this yoga.
And I readĀ Light On YogaĀ again and it all became clear. I knew I was on to something. Ā I feel I have transformed my own self (still a work in progress) and have certainly transformed the way that I see my patients.
I find myself more now, teaching patients to breath and taking them through guided imagery, talking with my patients longer, crying with my patients, hugging my patients. Ā Sometimes I feel I can see their pain and I know there is so much more to healing than just the physical self (anamayakosha), but I’m not always sure how to access that healing. Ā
I feel just recognizing the connection is half the battle. Ā And then I remember to Just Breathe.
